MATHS Tutor for KS3, GCSE (9-1), A Level (London)

“We know that without Alan's outstanding teaching each week, supporting our daughter and pushing her to be the best she could be, she would not have received these results. She has had numerous tutors but none added the value or had the passion for their subject and teaching that he showed.”

“Alan ignited a spark in my daughter. She really loves working with him. He has brought the fun back to her maths!”

“I got a 9 in Maths!!! I couldn’t have done it without your help and wanted to say a huge thank you!”

Hi! My name is Alan and I have been a fully qualified Mathematics teacher for over 12 years, also having worked as Head of Department. I have taught in state and private schools, both in the UK and abroad, and my students have gone on to study at every top university in the country, including Oxford and Cambridge.

I want my students to feel comfortable enough to make mistakes and confident enough to explore them. I strive to encourage independent thinking and mathematical resilience. As a result, my students report an overall rise in their level of engagement and enjoyment with Mathematics.

I have taught all ages and abilities, both in the classroom and one-to-one, from the basics of Year 7 through to Further Mathematics A-Level, reserving a particular love for algebra. I have also covered the International GCSE and A-Levels. Over the years I have gained a deep understanding of what examiners are looking for, how marks are awarded and key exam techniques.

I rarely have the capacity to take on new clients, but now I have slots available for TWO new students. These will be on a strict first-come first-served basis.

My rates are £70/hr for Key Stage 3, £80/hr for GCSE and £90/hr for A Level. All lessons are one-to-one and include travel costs. Lessons are 1.5hrs weekly, as this is the optimum recommended amount to supplement the work done at school effectively. I cover London Zone 1, but lessons over Skype can also be arranged.

I very much look forward to working with you and your child.

“Thank you so much for all your help over the last year – it was greatly appreciated, and my son has emerged so much stronger and intellectually confident as a result of the whole experience. We really can't thank you enough. We could see his confidence growing week by week as you covered all the gaps in maths and he truly looked forward to your lessons. We were both so delighted and encouraged by his progress and his drive.”

“Thank you for helping me overcome difficult questions and teaching me how to tackle complicated questions in a simpler way.”

“Thank you so much for making me more confident with algebra. Your ways are much easier than the ways I used to know.”

“I appreciate the way you made my sons 'think' how to approach each question. Thank you so much for your patience and kindness. They really enjoyed working with you.”

On a more personal level, I am a keen outdoorsman and have hiked my way across Spain, 3000 km across Japan, and, most recently, Slovenia, exclusively on foot. Portugal is next on the list... I am also passionate about languages, filmmaking, photography, food and DIY. I enjoy keeping fit and have a black belt in karate.

I have an Enhanced DBS check.
