If your child is struggling with maths, finding it confusing and developing negative attitudes towards maths, I can turn that around and remove the stress that studying maths can cause.
I have innovative ways of teaching maths concepts that will have your child doing hands-on, minds-on activities that will make mathematics intuitive to them, stimulate them to generate their own mathematical ideas and lead them to gain confidence in their own abilities.
I have worked with hundreds of kids, as a classroom maths teacher and as an individual tutor and have never met a child who could not deeply understand mathematics. Never.
I specialise in helping the students who “don’t get” maths. I have creative and innovative ways of assisting them to understand maths at a conceptual level and to discover they can “get maths”. They find out that maths is not about memorising procedures and routines and that it can be interesting and engaging. I always build a friendly relationship with my students so they work with someone who believes in them and their potential.
I make extensive use of manipulatives (counters, tiles, bars, string) and other activities. Students become active learners, exploring and discovering mathematical concepts for themselves.

Jonathan was able to work with my son and decode what he needed to know to put him on par with the other students in his class. R.B (Mother of a 5th grader, 10 years old)
When I was in 7th grade (12 years old), math was my worst subject. I had given up in class and felt like I would be one of those kids who would just never get it.
Mr. Kahn taught me that math wasn't just numbers and memorization; there was a more logical way of thinking about it that I could actually grasp. By 9th grade (14 years old) I was at the top of my class. I am now a junior in high school and am in Advanced Placement Pre-Calculus. This is something which I can proudly show to colleges and it is a direct result of Mr. Kahn's help.
Jonathan Kahn is a patient, knowledgeable, reliable & effective teacher and tutor. He has worked with our two daughters, grades 4 (9 years old) & 7 (12 years old) over the past year, and both of their math teachers noted improvement. In fact, our 7th grader scored advanced on her math PSSA this year. Jonathan has a clear & kind communication style, and a genuine passion about math and helping kids "get it" !
D.S. (Mother & middle school teacher)
We initially employed Jonathan to work with our son to prepare for a 7th grade math placement exam. Our son earned one of the highest marks in his class. Our son enjoyed working with Jonathan so much that he asked to continue to work with him during the school year. Our son earned an A in a 7th grade advanced math class. At the end of the school year, my son asked if he could continue to work with Jonathan over the summer to continue to advance his knowledge of math. I think this speaks volumes about Jonathan’s ability to make a tough subject both fun and interesting.
My 11th grade (16 years old) daughter had been working with another math tutor. When she began to prepare for her finals this spring she asked if she could work with Jonathan since our son was so complimentary of him. She did so and was very impressed with his ability to simplify complex ideas and to show her multiple ways to approach a single math problem. We also gave Jonathan’s name to a close family friend who was preparing for an Advanced Placement Calculus exam. She too praised Jonathan’s teaching methods.
