This is the '52 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop. This is the real deal- first year reissue example. 24.75" scale. 1 11/16" nut width. 9.6 lbs. The Les Paul has been an icon of guitar for over a half century and the Goldtop is the most celebrated of the line. In '68, Gibson decided to honor the Goldtop with its very first reissue. The slab mahogany body and one piece neck create a resonance that is just unbelievable. The 9.6 lb weight gives it that famous Les Paul 'push'. Together, those two qualities combine to create one of the best 'Paul tones you will ever hear. When you plug in, it only gets better. The dual P-90's soak up the rich natural tone and add their own infamous character. The bridge position here sounds absolutely huge- lots of complex mid character and big bottom end. The neck pickup is a sustain lover's dream- seemingly endless sustain when overdriven. Roll back the tones and the Sprague caps give you access to a palette of sweet warm sounds. Beautiful. The neck here is an almost exact replica of the '52 neck- .94" thick at the 5th fret with a slightly elliptical C profile. Talk about your reissue, the feel and tones are exceptionaly close to the original Goldtop. The look here is mesmerizing- naturally aged Goldtop finish with full body and neck binding. There is a very old headstock repair, you can see the spline in the pics, and on the face the words 'Les Paul' were covered when they refinished the area, this repair has definitely stood the test of time and is very strong. There were also two holes drilled into the body, presumably for mini switches, which were abandoned and filled. A professional refret was done at some point- very clean- plays great. This '68 wears its history with pride. The frets are clean- just professionally setup with action of just about 3/32" at the 12th fret. This sale includes the Gibson ABS hardshell in the pics. This is your chance to get your hands on a great piece of Gibson history and a true tone machine- the '68 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop.
